SEE Pt.6 – Self-Recovery of Passwords

If you remember in the article I did on the configuration of the SEE Agent, Self-Recovery is an option that has a number of settings that can be configured from the console, and then pushed out via an agent installation.

Self-Recovery from a back-end administrator and user perspective is the easiest option and simple to set up. This is where the user will be required to answer a set number of questions. This is an action initiated from the user’s workstation when they get to the SEE logon screen by pressing F4 (Press F4 for Forgot Password).

From the menu, the user chooses Self Recovery. Once they do, they are presented with the set number of questions they have to answer correctly, as can be seen below:

As long as the user can successfully answer the set number of questions, they will be able to continue with the boot process. If not, they are prompted to enter in the correct password, failing which the PC does not boot.

If the user continually has to run through the Self-Recovery process, then there is a larger issue at hand which will be resolved by resetting the user's password within Active Directory and allowing that to replicate correctly once the agent has checked into the SEE Manager.

Run your users through this process and enable them to at least attempt this the first time they have to rely on a token/temporary logon.
