All about the Dashboard- Symantec Messaging Gateway

The Symantec Messaging Gateway has one of the most simple looking yet very informative dashboard as compared to other products. We shall go through all the important aspects of the dashboard.

1. Log in to the Symantec Messaging Gateway.

2. The First thing you see is the Dashboard. The Dashboard page displays graphs and tables that summarize the status of your product and its mail filtering activity.

Item

Description

Messages graph

Shows single- and multiple-threat, and clean messages in proportion to the total message volume for the specified time frame.

Messages table

Lists individual counts for single threat, multiple threat, and clean messages as well as each type's percentage of total message volume for the specified time frame. Messages can also receive multiple verdicts.

Threats graph

Shows the most common message verdicts in proportion to the total volume of perceived threats for the specified time frame.

Lists individual counts for common message verdicts as well as each type's percentage of total message volume for the specified time frame

Top 5 Named Viruses table

Lists the most prevalent viruses and worms that were detected by malware scanning during the specified time frame. The malware types are ranked by frequency. Click the Details link to access a more granular report on the viruses that threaten your system.

Note:

The Top 5 Named Viruses statistics and the linked report do not include data from threat defense scanning.

Top 5 Content Filtering Policies table

Lists the most prevalent types of content filtering policy violations for the specified time frame, ranked by frequency. Click Details to access more granular data on your top content filtering concerns.

System

Status of the hardware and software components in your system. These statuses include current software version, all Scanners available, hardware status, and submission service status.

For detailed status on each item, click on its associated link.

Licenses

Status of the licenses you purchased from Symantec.

Note:

Licenses shows the oldest license across all Scanners licensed for that feature.

Definitions

Status of spam, customer-specific spam, and virus definitions available through Symantec LiveUpdate. Click the date that is adjacent theVirus definitions field to access theLiveUpdate Settings page. Click the link that is adjacent to Customer-specific Spam definitions to access the Customer-specific Spam submissions page.

Note:

Definitions shows the oldest definition across all Scanners licensed for that feature.

3. The Dashboard contains two Segments i.e The Numbers and the Status. The Numbers contains all the Total Numbers of all the Spam, Malware, Content Filter Violation etc. And the Status contains the System, License and Definition Status of the SMG Device.

4. You may view the total number of the message received till date defined. The Graph shows the ratio of clean messages to the single and multiple threats.

5. You may view the Total Threats received till date defined. The content violations show the total number of emails that violated the content filter policies defined. The Malware column shows the total malware that the SMG detected till date [NOTE:This also contains the encrypted attachments]. The Invalid recipients' column shows the total messages that were rejected on the connection level due to an invalid recipient email ID. The total number of SPAM emails received by the SMG is also given in the Threats section. The Disarm Section gives the number of emails with attachments which contained any MACROS within it was disarmed by the SMG.

6. The Status section shows the License, Hardware and Definition Status of your SMG Device.

The Current version of the SMG is displayed in the Status tab itself.
